Appointments

We offer a range of appointment types depending on your needs. If your situation is urgent, please call us – there’s more information on same-day appointments below.

Types of consultations

Routine appointments

Most of your healthcare needs can be planned ahead, and we encourage you to book routine appointments for ongoing care, check-ups, and non-urgent concerns. This helps us spend the right amount of time with you and your whānau, and support your long-term health and wellbeing.

When you get in touch, our team will ask a few questions to understand what you need and make sure you’re booked with the right person, at the right time. Our GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and wider team all play a role in providing your care.

If your situation is more immediate, we’ll let you know and guide you toward same-day care where needed. This way, we can make sure everyone gets the right care, at the right time.

Routine appointments are usually for:

  • Check-ups and follow-ups for ongoing health concerns
  • Repeat prescriptions and medication reviews
  • Long-term condition management
  • Preventative care, immunisations and screening

Same-day and acute care appointments

Sometimes health concerns can pop up that need attention that same-day, and we’re ready to help. Our team includes GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Paramedics, and we use their different skills to get you the right care as quickly as possible.

In-person consultations

See a doctor or nurse face-to-face for physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, and procedures. This is recommended when a hands-on assessment is needed or if you have symptoms that require a closer look.

Phone and video consultations

Speak with a clinician from the comfort of your home. Phone or video consultations are suitable for follow-ups, advice, repeat prescriptions, test results, and managing common health concerns without needing to visit us in the clinic.

Heidi AI in consultations

We use Heidi AI to help support your consultation by capturing and summarising clinical notes. This allows your clinician to focus more on you and your whānau, and less on paperwork.

A summary of your consultation will be available to you through the Local Health App. Any transcripts created during the consultation are securely deleted immediately after the appointment. Please speak to us if you have any concerns.

Getting the most out of your appointment

Check out these simple tips to help you feel confident, prepared, and supported during your appointment. Still got questions? Our team is here to support you. Contact us

Prioritise your concerns

Pick 1 – 2 issues to discuss with your clinician.

Too many topics can mean less time for the most important ones.

If you need more time, consider booking a longer appointment with us.  There will be an extra cost for this which is listed in our fees

Be clear

Think about what you want from the appointment. Medication? Tests? A referral? Or reassurance? State it clearly so your clinician knows how to help.

Be ready for questions

Your clinician will ask for details, like when your symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, and what you’ve already tried to help.

Bring a friend or whānau member for support

Having someone that you trust with you in your appointment can be helpful.

They can ask questions, remember details and offer support.

Wrap up your appointment with a summary

Before you leave, repeat the next steps to your clinician to be sure you understand your treatment plan.

Make sure you are signed up to the Local Health App.  A record of your appointment will be available for you to view after the consultation, reminding you and your clinician of the next steps.
