Dr Amber-Lea Rerekura

Specialist General Practitioner

E rere kau mai te awa nui mai i te Kāhui Maunga ki Tangaroa, ko au te awa, ko te awa ko au. Born and raised in Whanganui, Amber-Lea completed her medical training at Otago University, followed by a postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health. Amber-Lea practices all areas of general practice with a special interest in women’s health, Māori health and equity and minor surgeries. Outside of work, Amber-Lea is kept busy by her three young children and enjoys running and fitness.

Dr Amy Ikenasio

Specialist General Practitioner

Amy was born and raised in South Australia and completed her General Practice training across rural South Australia. She is passionate about the breadth of general practice and providing quality medical care to people from all walks of life. Amy has special interests in women’s health, indigenous health and has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Child Health. Outside of medicine, Amy is a mother of four, enjoys vegetable gardening and is a foodie and coffee enthusiast.

Dr Angela Aitken

Specialist General Practitioner

Ange grew up in Oamaru and completed her medical training at Otago University, finishing her clinical years in Wellington Hospital before joining Palmerston North Hospital. She holds postgraduate qualifications in paediatrics and women’s health. Ange is a dedicated GP committed to holistic, patient-centred care and empowering patients to make informed decisions. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children, playing tennis, skiing and being in New Zealand’s great outdoors.

Peter Baur

Nurse Practioner (NP)

Pete completed his Registered General Nurse training in Edinburgh in 1995 before moving to New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Philosophy from Massey University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing from Edinburgh University. Pete has worked across critical, emergency and acute settings around the world, settling in the Manawatu-Wanganui region in 2002. He and his wife, also a Nurse Practitioner, have six children and live in Palmerston North.

Angela McEntee

Registered Nurse

Angela’s journey in Primary Care began at Feilding Health Care in 2019. Prior to this she worked in a fast-paced general surgical ward. Angela is passionate about the diversity of Primary Care and the relationships formed through continuity. She returns to Local Health after extending her skill set working in palliative care. Angela is passionate about culturally safe holistic healthcare, women’s health, and empowering patients through education.

Bev Pratt

Registered Nurse

Bev trained at UCOL in Palmerston North and most of her career has been in community nursing, including four years as a Plunket nurse. She has worked in the Primary Care setting for the past seven years and really enjoys the diversity of the role. Bev is passionate about children’s health and thinks being able to care for families in the community is a real privilege. 

Natalie Seagar

Registered Nurse

Natalie trained at UCOL Palmerston North, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 2010. She has worked across general practice, rest home care, corrections, home and community healthcare. She loves bringing a warm, holistic approach to people of every age and stage of life. Born in Wellington and raised in Palmerston North, Natalie is privileged to work in the community she grew up in. A mother of two, she has a special interest in children’s and women’s health, mental health, and neurodiversity.

Denise Candy

Registered Nurse

Denise is a registered nurse who completed her training at UCOL and has since built a diverse career across Arohanui Hospice and District Nursing. Having been brought up in the region, she has a deep connection to the community and has been a patient of Group Medical for more than 40 years. Denise brings compassion, practical experience, and a strong commitment to supporting patients and their whānau through every stage of care.

Nicole Scholtz

Paramedic

Hailing from the Waikato, Nicole came to paramedicine after time in a different career, discovering her passion for acute care. She has spent over four years on the frontline ambulance service, completing a Bachelor of Health Science in Paramedicine and becoming a Registered Paramedic. Nicole enjoys connecting with people and is committed to high-quality, community-focused care. Outside of work, she is a mum of two young children, loves travelling and is a self-confessed enthusiast for good snacks.

Rachael Smith

Patient Services Team Leader

Rachael brings extensive operations management experience to her role as Patient Services Team Lead, along with a background in accounting, sales and early childhood education, where she developed strong relationships with whānau. Her broad experience has given her strong leadership, organisational and people skills.

Rachael is highly family-oriented, with three very active boys who love the outdoors and keep her on her toes with activities like hunting, fishing, and beach life. Rachael brings a caring and positive energy to everything she does.
