Prioritise your concerns
Pick 1 – 2 issues to discuss with your clinician.
Too many topics can mean less time for the most important ones.
If you need more time, consider booking a longer appointment with us. There will be an extra cost for this which is listed in our fees.
Be clear
Think about what you want from the appointment. Medication? Tests? A referral? Or reassurance?
State it clearly so your clinician knows how to help.
Be ready for questions
Your clinician will ask for details, like when your symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, and what you’ve already tried to help.
Bring a friend or whanau member for support
Having someone that you trust with you in your appointment can be helpful.
They can ask questions, remember details and offer support.
Wrap up your appointment with a summary
Before you leave, repeat the next steps to your clinician to be sure you understand your treatment plan.
Make sure you are signed up to the Patient Portal. A record of your appointment will be available for you to view after the consultation, reminding you and your clinician of the next steps.
